The Deeside and Donside Unitarian Fellowship

A Space for Reflection, Gratitude and Inspiration.

Our Purpose

The Fellowship exists to support members in their endeavour to live more fully, more joyfully and more lovingly by developing practices to enable us to:

  • Embrace uncertainty so that we can live in the moment.

  • Honour and be thankful for all that we have without minimising the challenges and pain of the human experience.

  • Steady us at the different stages of the journey of our lives – to find acceptance and peace

  • Value the difference that others bring.

  • Develop ourselves to confront our own biases, prejudices and patterns of behaviour that provoke fear and suffering in ourselves and others.

  • Respect, appreciate and take responsibility for the care of the natural environment.

  • Make a difference in the world with our deep commitment to social-justice and social-action.

Who are the Unitarians?

The Unitarian movement arose and evolved in the liberal Christian tradition; however, among Unitarians today there are also those who find the focus of their faith elsewhere – for example in religious humanism, earth-centred spirituality, or other belief-systems.

Unitarians affirm that truth and humanity are best served when both the mind and the conscience are free.  We maintain that no one book or institution or individual has the monopoly on truth: we believe that we all have the right to seek truth and meaning for ourselves through reflecting upon our life experience, our intuitive understanding, and the promptings of our own conscience.

We claim no exclusive revelations or status for ourselves because we afford respect to those who follow different paths of faith.  And we acknowledge that our beliefs may need to change in the light of new understanding and insight.

The Deeside and Donside Unitarian Fellowship offers a calendar of monthly Reflective Gatherings.

Unitarian Values

Unitarians believe that we are all engaged in a life-quest, the development of a personal value-system by which each of us lives.  The final authority for our faith lies within our own conscience.

We advocate for equality of respect and opportunity for everyone.  We oppose oppression and discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, sexual orientation or religious belief.  And we are defined by our commitment to social responsibility – to making a positive difference in the communities in which we live.

All Unitarians hold as important:

  • The nurture of life’s spiritual dimension.

  • The use of reason and honest doubt in the search for truth.

  • Mutual respect and goodwill in personal relations.

  • Openness towards the sincerely-held beliefs of others.

  • Peace, compassion, justice and democracy in human affairs.

  • Reverence for the earth and the whole natural system of which we are a part.

Our Fellowship provides a space to help us to:

Understand and evaluate our own beliefs, values and those of others.

Provide a forum for the free and respectful exchange of ideas and insights.

Create our own spiritual path from our life experience, intuition and reflections.

Explore ways in which our faith can be applied to life in our world.
